ENERGY UPGRADE CALIFORNIA (EUC): POWER SAVER REWARDS/FLEX ALERTS
Educating Californians on energy efficiency and conservation.
Our Client: Energy Upgrade California is a statewide initiative by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) aimed at helping Californians become more energy-efficient, use sustainable resources, and make informed energy choices. It supports the state's ambitious energy goals, including reducing carbon pollution to 1990 levels by 2030. The CPUC is a regulatory agency in the state of California responsible for overseeing public utilities, including electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, water, railroads, and transportation companies.
Our Challenge: The Power Saver Rewards Program is a free program offered by PG&E that rewards participants for temporarily reducing energy use when the demand for electricity is high. The program offers various tools and resources for organizations and individuals to participate in energy-saving activities and contribute to the state's energy conservation efforts. We were tasked with mobilizing community organizations in California to spread the word about this program, and get members of their community to enroll. The program also emphasizes the importance of Flex Alerts, which are notifications encouraging Californians to voluntarily reduce their energy usage during critical times to prevent power outages.
Our Approach: JCI successfully activated community-based organizations very quickly while the program was still getting on its feet. Our team needed to educate groups on how to quickly activate the Flex Alerts that were called and struggled with reporting out numbers in a timely manner.
Our Results: JCI strengthened relationships with community-based organizations, educated and created awareness around Flex Alerts and how to save power to prevent one from occurring, and increased the conversation about energy conservation and switching to cleaner energy sources.
