Van Tamom Joins the JCI team as Senior Political Advisor

Welcome to Van Tamom, JCI's new Senior Political Advisor!


As a public affairs and communications professional, Van has accumulated nearly 20 years of expertise in California and beyond. He formerly worked with the Steyer Organization as a political and event advisor, and as Chief of Staff and Senior Account Manager for Imprenta Communications Group, a California-based, award-winning public affairs, ethnic marketing, and campaign firm.


Van served as the Political/Communications Director of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP), the largest local Democratic Party in the nation, representing over 2.7 million voters across 88 cities. He oversaw legislative advocacy, media relations, event organizing, voter registration development, and Democratic Party member services.


During President Barack Obama’s first term, Van was appointed by the President to serve as Special Assistant to the Regional Administrator of the United States General Services Administration (GSA), working with the White House on the federal government’s small business outreach operations in the Pacific Rim region.


In 2006, Van was the Democratic Nominee for California State Assembly in the 60th Assembly District, making him the first Cambodian American to run for state office in California.

Van earned his MBA from Babson College’s F.W. Olin School of Business and his bachelor’s in Political Science from CSU Northridge.
