JCI Sponsors and Attends the Premio Awards and Scholarship Breakfast

By Felicia Wulandari and Bella Mendoza

On Friday, November 4th, JCI Worldwide had the honor of sponsoring and attending the Premio Awards and Scholarship Breakfast, held by the Los Angeles chapter of The Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) to celebrate the achievements of this year’s Premio scholarship awardee. Every year, HPRA-LA awards scholarships to Hispanic public relations students in the greater Los Angeles area that have demonstrated stellar academic achievement and strong community service.

Following the award ceremony, the three awardees, along with Chavez’s PR Andrea Molina, sat down for a panel discussion that was moderated by previous scholarship recipient and incoming National Geographic intern Zane Landin. As panelists, they shared their experiences and struggles of being minority students that are navigating their professional careers in the public relations industry. They touched on their initial passions and how they came to pursue public relations and discussed the value of mentorships and internships to learn the ins and outs of the work. The panel served as a fascinating discourse that revealed the changing, and in some cases, the unchanging landscape of the industry for Hispanic professionals. To the senior practitioners attending the event, the panel also served as a lens into the aspirations and hopes of the next generation of communicators.

JCI is proud to have worked with HPRA-LA and supported the educational goals of this year’s four awardees and looks forward to further developing career pipelines and opportunities to empower the future generation of Latinx public relations practitioners.
