Domestic Fuels Solutions Group
CI formed a diverse coalition of advocacy groups and organizations to support the use of alternative fuels in the U.S. energy industry.
Our Challenge: From 2012-13, JCI assisted the Domestic Fuel Solutions Group (DFSG) in forming a diverse national coalition of stakeholders with the common goal of reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil while advancing a broader range of alternative fuels and feedstocks. The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) was created by Congress under the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and established the first renewable fuel blending mandate in the U.S. The RFS, however, did not leave adequate room for technological advancements, which limited the production of biofuels.
Our Approach: Working collaboratively with the nation’s largest conventional and alternative energy companies, JCI formed a diverse coalition of advocacy groups and organizations to support the use of alternative fuels in the U.S. energy industry. The national coalition and state affiliates represented some 1.5 million members nationwide, with a focus on pushing the Obama administration and bipartisan congressional leaders to increase funding for alternative fuel development.
Our Results: JCI ensured continued funding for federal programs promoting alternative energy and worked to broaden the Obama administration’s “all of the above” strategy for domestic energy policy, enlisting the support of key congressional figures and obtaining vocal sponsorship of legislative alternatives.
