Daniel Pearl Foundation: Music Day

The Daniel Pearl Foundation was created in early 2002 in memory of slain Wall Street Journalist Daniel Pearl, who spread a message of tolerance through his music and writing. JCI worked with the Foundation to create and publicize the first and most recent Daniel Pearl World Music Day. This event, now in its third year, has become a worldwide success in spreading its message of peace and tolerance. Some of the highlights included:

Musicians, writers, and performers created over 200 events in over 30 countries around the world.
Over 700 media articles and broadcast segments were seen around the globe.
Ground-breaking PSA created by JCI, featuring Sir Elton John, were broadcast in 20 countries, even in the Arab world on the Al-Jazera Network. (www.danielpearl.org/musicday/)
Two years in a row the Today Show and CNN broadcasted special segments naming Daniel Pearl and his legacy.
Symphonies and orchestras from US cities such as Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, and Atlanta paid tribute to Daniel and his idea of a tolerant global community through concerts.
World famous performers involved in Music Day included Barbra Streisand, Yo-Yo Ma, Herbie Hancock, John Williams, Yefim Bronfman, Salman Ahmad, Itzhak Pearlman, and Sir Elton John.

JCI is thrilled to have contributed so much to the expansion of the Daniel Pearl Foundation with the planning of this special event, and will continue to support the Foundation through public relations.
